What the Frack* is Mom Jeans Productions?
A few years ago, in the early stages of my discovery of the artist inside, I started keeping a note with cool band names, should my guitar skills advance to a point where I felt comfortable having a band. That day still hasn’t come, and some other really awesome and original musicians apparently already took the name ‘Mom Jeans,’ but today I give you… Mom Jeans Productions! Please, allow my mid-life crisis to be your entertainment. I kid. Kind of.
But seriously, Mom Jeans Productions is born of my mid-life compulsion to bring stories to life. It’s named in honor of my three kids (now ages 17, 9 & 7) who’ve given me unconditional love and a waistline that demands mom jeans.
When I started this journey just a few years ago, I thought I was trying to be a screenwriter. I wrote three dramatic pilots, two full seasons for one of them, then a comedic version of another. I never felt done with any of them but I knew I needed to build a book of fiction in order to be taken seriously.
It was only after finishing my first feature script in a fever dream at the end of last year that I realized I wasn’t so much aiming to be a screenwriter as I was a visual storyteller. Producer. Director. Creator. Whatever. I just want to bring my stories to one of your screens exactly as they appear in the dark recesses of my mind. So that’s what I’mma do.
As I start to make stuff happen, I hope you enjoy what I release but if you don't, that’s cool too. In fact, it’s better if you don’t because then we’ll have more to talk about. The best part of waking up is Folger’s (not vodka?) in your cup and the best part of seeing art is arguing with your friends about it. ;)
*For the past 20 years, about once a week, my husband and I do a bit from Veronica Mars, where one of us says “What the frack?” and the other says “You see, ‘frack,’ is a curse word of the future…” About six months ago (can you believe it took me that effing long?), I realized that we (& the rapey dude who was terrorizing the coeds of Hearst College) were saying it all wrong! ‘Frack’ isn’t a curse word of the future; it’s a curse word of the past! Because the end of BSG is just the beginning for humanity! I told Matt and he reminded me that Season 3 of Veronica Mars aired before BSG ended. And then we realized we are old. So very old.
